On fol. 1r: an oval stamp:
Musikalien-Verlag / C. F. Kahnt / Nachfolger /
LEIPZIG; with 56874 added in blue pencil in an
unidentified hand.
The scoring, including the
removal of the piccolo part in bb. 1–2 and the addition of the
celeste part, was revised by Mahler in
this manuscript. Mahler also added rehearsal numbers in this score,
which may indicate that he used it at the Vienna
performances in
January and February 1905. This possibility is given some
support by the composer's annotations in the top right-hand
corner of the title page. Mahler originally wrote
9 in red pencil (the song was the ninth item in the first
concert), but changed this to 14 in lead pencil (in the
event the song was item twelve in the February event). The score
may also have been used in Graz on
1 June
1905. It was subsequently used as the printer's copy for
PF4m1
and the plate number (4471) was added to fol. 2r in red
pencil; on fol. 1r: an oval stamp:
Musikalien-Verlag / C. F. Kahnt / Nachfolger /
LEIPZIG; with 56874 added in blue pencil in an
unidentified hand.
It is
noticeable that the letterpress elements needed on the first
page of the printed score are not entered in full: in later
manuscripts of the songs prepared for the printer they are
either wholly, or partially rubber stamped at the foot of the
page. Here their presence is merely indicated by the annotations
Verlag and Cop- [i.e. Copyright]: cf.
ACV4m,
ACV3m.
At some date this manuscript was folded in half horizontally. |
