Parts for the offstage trumpets in the first movement, originally prepared by Emil Zöphel,¹ a copyist who was employed by the Vienna Court Opera from 1899 (and perhaps, earlier), and up to about 1907/8 was Mahler's main Viennese copyist. The off-stage position of the instruments are indicated: i) and ii) In weiter Entfernung, iii) In sehr weiter Entfernung.

 

Kept with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's copy of PF1 and GMPO1, together with Cpart.
