A Cartoon of Mahler

Sieben Lieder: selected historic recordings, 1928–1968

Sieben Lieder – Main page

Catalogue Homepage

For a comprehensive listing of recordings of Mahler’s music to 2009, see Péter Fülöp, Mahler Discography, second edition (Toronto: Mikrokosmos Comp. Ltd, 2010 (PFMD2)). The Fülöp numbers are those assigned in the second edition of this reference work, and supersede those of the 1995 edition. (N.B. Fülöp lists the two Wunderhorn settings separately, so his numbering of them and of the Rückert settings is NOT that of the Sieben Lieder used below.) The discography offers separate chronological listings of the versions with orchestral accompaniment, and with piano. The selective list below focuses on first recordings (of both the piano and orchestral versions) and recordings by musicians who worked with or heard Mahler, or have other significance in the performing history of the work: the ordering is by song number and date.
