Notes

This manuscript in the hand of Max Puttmann, the arranger (who, unusually, is identified as such in an editorial annotation), was probably prepared in 1916, and served as the printer's copy for the first edition. The vocal part is untexted (except for two short passages on 4r where the German and English texts have been added in pencil) but has a note over bb.1–2: Text nach der a u. b Ausgabe (see CV4t1 for a similar annotation).

The plate number 7632 has been added to fol. 2r, suggesting that the transposition was probably first published in mid-1917, and there is a note in the l.h. margin: pariser / format.Ή The annotation on 1r is presumably a reference/order number connected with the engraving or printing of the arrangement.

At some point the manuscript was folded in half along the vertical axis.
