Notes

The arranger was Max Puttmann, who is identified in a pencil annotation on p. 1; the pencil instructions are Pariser format¹ and Text nach Ausgabe a u. b. (see CV1t1 for a similar annotation). The latter is supplemented with Raum für 3. Sprache frei lassen, indicating that at an early stage a tri-lingual underlay was envisaged.  The plate number (7633) was added in pencil at the foot of fol. 1r, and suggests that the arrangement was probably prepared in late 1916; 75488 is noted in the r.h. margin on fol. 1r: it is probably a reference number connected with the engraving or printing of this transposition. The manuscript has at some time been folded in half along a vertical axis; it served as the printer's copy for the first edition (PV4t1).
